Oscar, An Open Source Software

Oscar is an open source software that recognizes weeds.

This software was created in the framework of the Asia IT&C programme of the European Commission, by the French Institute of Pondicherry (leader), the CIRAD (UMR AMAP), the Rice & Wheat Consortium for the Indo-Gangetic plains (Delhi, India) and the University of Wageningen (Netherlands) - http://www.ifpindia.org/.

This is the first step towards precision agriculture wherein a non-specialist will be able to monitor specific species of rice and weeds.

Objective of Oscar Software

This open source software aims to boost agricultural produce on Asian Nations with declining production.

Its long term abjectives includes

  • initiate cooperation between European and South Asian Nations
  • Contribute on improving rice and wheat productions
  • Educate rural areas on new agricultural knowledge
  • Promote Open Source
